Lucia: mommy, are we celebrating Jesus' birthday on Christmas?
Me: yes, that's why we have Christmas and we give gifts to each other as a reminder of all the gifts baby Jesus gave us. We will even have birthday cake.
Lucia: oh, can we have blue cake because baby Jesus is a boy?
Me: yes, I guess so.
Lucia: is our next baby coming after Christmas?
Me: yes, I hope so.
Lucia: mommy, is baby Jesus in your tummy?

My mom fell off a ladder a few nights ago and fractured her ankle. So tonight when I was putting Lucia to bed we prayed that "God would heal Nonna's broken foot and that he'd giver her patience as it healed.
Lucia: did her foot come all the way off?
Me: no baby, just the bone ibroke inside and it will grow back together, Nonna just can't walk on it, so we need God to heal her.
Lucia: oh. Can Nonna walk to God?
Me: no, right now she's not supposed to walk at all.
Lucia: mommy, how come we can't see God?
Me: we can't see Gods face baby, but we can see God in our lives. We can see him when miracles happen, we can see him in all the blessings he's given us and how he protects us and keeps us safe. We see him when we see his beautiful creations of people and trees and mountains. But we won't get to see Gods face until we die and go to heaven.
Lucia: is Heaven our real home and this is just our pretend home?
Me: yes, baby, heaven is our real home forever. This is our house and its real, but it's not forever.
Lucia: oh...
